Maxon has officially released Redshift for Mac, the new macOS edition of Redshift, its GPU renderer.
Native support for Apple’s Metal graphics API is available in Redshift 3.0.43, the current production build; support for Apple’s new M1 processors will follow after the release of macOS 11.3.
M1 delivers significantly higher performance at every power level when compared with the very latest PC laptop chip. At just 10 watts (the thermal envelope of a MacBook Air), M1 delivers up to 2x the CPU performance of the PC chip. And M1 can match the peak performance of the PC chip while using just a quarter of the power. OS: Mac OS: 10.11 or above. CPU: Core2duo with SSE2 technology or better. RAM: 4 GB (6+ GB strongly recommended) HDD: 8 GB of free hard drive space for ZBrush and its scratch disk. Pen Tablet: Mouse or Wacom compatible (Carbon API) pen tablet. Monitor: 1280×1024 monitor resolution with millions of colors.
The changes make it possible for users of host apps that run on macOS – now including Blender, Cinema 4D, Houdini and Maya – to use the renderer on current Mac laptops and workstations.
Native support for Apple’s Metal API makes it possible to run Redshift on new Macs again
First rolled out as a public beta last year, the port from Nvidia’s CUDA to Apple’s Metal as a GPU computing API will enable Redshift to run properly on current Mac hardware.
- İ got my mac mini yesterday and zbrush works great. İ can run it almost like my old 2017 5000$ imac pro. Just with 8gb ram. And under 1000$. Also İ have wacom 24 pro and works fine. Sometimes my pen stops working. Only after i switch to another app and come back to zbrush pen doesnt work. Quit and reopen.

Apple no longer supports Nvidia cards, even as eGPUs, and in any case, CUDA no longer supports macOS.
To run on Macs, Redshift currently requires macOS 11 Big Sur, and either an AMD Navi or Vega GPU, AMD’s current- and next-generation graphics cards.
That means a machine less than three years old: Navi GPUs first became available in Mac desktops in late 2017 with the iMac Pro, reaching Mac laptops the following year.
You can see a full list of supported GPUs here.
Native support for M1 processors to follow ‘in the next few weeks’
While Metal support is available today in Redshift 3.0.43 – according to the Redshift Trello board, it’s actually been available version 3.0.38 in February – anyone with a really new Mac will have to wait a bit longer.
Although Maxon is working on native support for M1 chips, the first of the new Apple Silicon processors, which rolled out late last year, it won’t be available until Apple releases macOS 11.3.
According to this forum post, there’s no definite release date for the new M1-native edition of Redshift, but it should be available “some time in the next few weeks”.

Pixologic Zbrush 2020.1.1 for Mac Review
Pixologic Zbrush 2020.1.1 for macOS is a digital sculpting tool that combines 3D/2.5D modelling, texturing and painting. Filmmakers, producers, game developers and other digital artists use it for enhancing and beautifying their 3D models. It uses a proprietary pixol technology which stores lighting, colour, material, orientation, and depth information for the points making up all objects on the screen.
This update comes with the new XTractor, HistoryRecall and DecoCurve brushes. Its installation process does not take long and does not pose any kind of problems, while the interface you come across is quite minimal and clear-cut. With the ability to sculpt and PolyPaint on the UV unwrap of a model, digital artists can easily apply long continuous strokes across a mesh. XTractor Brushes enables users to convert detail from a specific model into a new alpha or texture for future reuse.
Users just need to simply drag their stroke across the surface of any model to capture the details of the sculpt. The captured details can then be used elsewhere on the same model, or on any other model in the future. In 3D model optimizing, its Texture Adjust by Color & PolyPaint Adjust by Color not only gives the power to adjust the colours in a model’s PolyPaint or Texture Map but enables users to restrict these adjustments to specific colour selections. Moreover, artists can also use colour picking to mask or unmask portions of the model. On the whole, Zbrush 2020.1.1 for Mac is the logic choice if you need a full-featured 3D/2.5D modelling, texturing and painting program.
